Where every number on this site comes from.
Primary source
All prices, addresses, opening hours and coordinates come from the public fuel price API of the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition (Hydrocarbons Geoportal), published as open data on datos.gob.es.
The source states that "prices are updated every half hour, with the prices in force at that moment". Our collection process runs at the same frequency.
History
The Ministry also publishes the listing for past dates. We use it to rebuild the price series and the size of the network per product, which is why we can show how much renewable diesel has grown or how LPG has moved - something the daily listing alone cannot do.
What we compute
- Medians, minimums, maximums and quartiles by product, province, town, brand and road.
- The difference between each alternative fuel and its fossil reference (diesel or unleaded 95).
- Each station position within its province and its difference from the provincial median.
- Road and kilometre point derived from the address, and live open/closed status from the declared opening hours.
What we do not cover
Electric charging is not on this site because charge point prices and availability are not published as open data in Spain. We would rather not cover something we could not maintain to the same standard.
The map
The interactive map is drawn with MapLibre GL JS on the vector styles of OpenFreeMap, built with OpenMapTiles from OpenStreetMap data. OpenFreeMap is a free service with no API key; the cartography is the work of OpenStreetMap contributors.
The illustrated map on the home page and the fuel sections is generated by our own server: the coastline comes from Natural Earth (public domain) and every dot is a filling station from the Ministry data.
Reuse
We reuse the data citing the source and the date of the last update on every page with data, in line with the reuse conditions of the Ministry electronic office.
