The chart plots the Spanish median for CNG from 1 Jan 2019 to 19 Oct 2026, with 297 points.
The 297 points of the CNG series are not evenly spaced: the Ministry archive is monthly in the early years, then weekly and finally daily, which is why the chart uses a time axis rather than a simple sequence of points.

Of the 297 CNG readings, 196 come from the last year: the Ministry archive has become denser over time.
By year, the median has been 2022 1.989 €/kg, 2023 1.179 €/kg, 2024 1.229 €/kg, 2025 1.259 €/kg and 2026 1.509 €/kg.
What you are looking at
CNG is natural gas compressed to around 200 bar, almost pure methane, dispensed and billed by the kilogram rather than by the litre. You pay per kilogram, and a kilo goes roughly as far as a litre and a half of petrol, so the price per kilo means nothing until you do that sum.
It is fitted to factory bi-fuel cars and vans and to a large share of city buses; converting a car afterwards is rare, because the tank is a pressure cylinder. The network is concentrated around the big cities and the freight corridors, and several provinces have no public refuelling point at all.
Frequently asked questions about the CNG price history
How has the price moved over the past year?
Between 1.149 and 1.958 €/kg over the last twelve months, with today's median at 1.958 €/kg. The chart lets you narrow the range to 30, 90 or 365 days.
Why does today's price not exactly match the chart?
The chart plots the daily CNG median from the archive, closed with the last reading of that day; the large figure at the top is the reading as of now, 1.958 €/kg on 19 Oct 2026. Once the day ends, the two agree.
How far back does the CNG price data go?
Back to 1 Jan 2019, the first date on which the Ministry archive publishes a price for CNG. Before that the product had no column of its own in the file.
What is the highest CNG price on record?
2.890 €/kg on 1 Sept 2022. The low of the series is 0.849 €/kg, on 1 Jul 2021.
How much does CNG cost right now?
1.958 €/kg as a median, from the reading on 19 Oct 2026: 32.2 % below the high of the series.
Where does this historical data come from?
From the public archive of the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition, which publishes one file per date with the prices of every filling station. It has been downloaded day by day and the national median for CNG worked out for each day, from 1 Jan 2019 onwards.
Why are the points on the chart unevenly spaced?
Because the Ministry archive does not use the same frequency every year: for CNG it starts on 1 Jan 2019 with monthly readings and ends with daily ones. The chart uses a time axis, so a long gap looks like a gap instead of being smoothed away.
